mountain purple
The purple pitcher plant grows from Canada to Florida and has many varieties, sub-species and forms. This is the mountain variety Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa var. montana. It is endemic to the Western half of the Carolinas and is rare in cultivation and in the wild. Slightly smaller than its coastal cousin, it is noted for its cute pitchers with “V” shaped mouths. The mountain purple pitcher plant is well-suited for BOG GARDENS or dish gardens with part-shade during the afternoon.
