The purple pitcher plant grows from Canada to Florida and has many varieties, sub-species and forms. This is the southern variety, Sarracenia purpurea ssp. venosa that is native to the coastal plain from New Jersey to Florida and east to Alabama. Noted for its open-mouthed rain-catching leaves, it is prized in any BOG GARDEN or dish garden for its special shape and color.
